Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Powersports Watch of Boise, Idaho ("we", "us") collects through powersportswatch.com, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as running the service needs, we do not sell it, and we do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
What we collect
When you request access, we keep what you enter on the form: your name, role and what you do, the dealership's name and website, your work email address, and, if you give them, a phone number and what you hope the service will tell you. We also record the IP address and browser identification (user agent) the request came from, the time, and which version of our Terms and this policy you agreed to. To confirm the email address is yours we send it a six-digit code; we store only a scrambled (hashed) form of the code.
When you have an account, we keep your email address, name, your dealership and the market you are set up to see. Each time you sign in we email a one-time code (again stored only hashed), and we keep a record of the session: when it started and was last used, the IP address and the browser identification.
When you write to us, through the contact form or by email, we receive your name, email address, any company you give and your message. The form sends it to our inbox as an email; it is not stored in the service's database.
Server logs. Our servers log technical events such as sign-ins and errors, some of which include an IP address. These logs rotate automatically and are not kept indefinitely.
Cookies and browser storage
We use only the cookies the site needs to work, so there is no cookie banner:
pw_sessionkeeps you signed in. It expires after 14 days without use, and signing out ends it.- A security cookie protects forms against cross-site request forgery.
- A short-lived cookie carries you from one step of a form to the next (for example, from entering your email to entering the code).
- Two cookies used only by our own staff, to preview what a member sees.
Your choice of light or dark theme is kept in your browser's local storage and never sent to us. We do not use analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use it
To review access requests and decide them; to confirm your email address and sign you in; to set up and run your account and show you the right market; to keep the service secure, including spotting misuse of accounts; to answer you when you write to us; and to tell account holders about material changes to our terms. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it or share it for anyone else's marketing.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of service providers, each only to run the parts of the service they provide:
- Cloudflare carries all traffic between your browser and our servers, and delivers email sent to our address.
- Postmark sends our email, such as sign-in codes, so it sees the addresses we send to and the messages.
- Google Fonts serves the site's typefaces, so your browser's IP address and identification reach Google when a page loads.
Otherwise we disclose personal information only when the law requires it, to protect our rights or someone's safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business, in which case this policy would continue to apply to it.
Dealer inventory is not personal information
What the service tracks is inventory that dealerships publish on their own public websites: units, prices and dates. That is business information about dealerships, not about individuals. How we collect it is described on About our crawler.
How long we keep it
We keep access requests, account details and session records for as long as we run the service, so that decisions and account activity remain traceable, unless you ask us to delete them. We do not currently delete them on a fixed schedule. Emails to us are kept in our inbox for as long as they are useful. Server logs rotate on their own.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. There are no passwords to steal: sign-in is by one-time code, and codes are stored hashed, expire after ten minutes and stop working after a few wrong tries. Session cookies cannot be read by scripts on the page and are sent only over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care.
Your choices
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, by writing to [email protected] or using our contact form. We will confirm the request comes from you, usually by replying to the address on file, and answer within 30 days. Deleting your information ends your account. We may keep a minimal record of an access decision or of your agreement to our terms where we need it to protect our legal rights.
Children
The service is for businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
California and Do Not Track
We do not sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms. Because we do not track visitors across other websites, we do not respond differently to Do Not Track browser signals; there is nothing for them to switch off.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change is material, we will tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
